About Air King

Rolex Air-King - The watch of choice for the aviator

The Rolex Air-King is a line of wristwatches by the Swiss luxury watchmaker Rolex. First released in 1945, the Air-King was released as part of the now retired "Air Series" line. The founder of Rolex Hans Wilsdorf created the Air-King range to honor the RAF pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain. The Air-King was designed with aviators in mind, with even some airlines giving the Air-King as a retirement gift to their pilots. With the solid-link Oyster bracelet and distinctive black dial, the Air-King is a sleek and stylish homage to the heroic aviators it was inspired by.

The Rolex Air-King was first released as part of the now retired "Air-Series" line of Rolex watches. The first Air-King was released in 1945, with the watch joining the ranks of the Air-Lion, Air-Giant, and Air-Tiger, all of which were created to honor the RAF pilots of the Battle of Britain. Due to its history and iconic design, the Air-King has become one of Rolex's most well-known timepieces and a highly prized collector's piece.

The Air-King line remained mostly unchanged for almost four decades, until the release of the reference 14000 Air-King in 1982. This Air-King model had a sapphire crystal and new caliber 3000 movement, as well as an engine-turned bezel. The Air-King was updated once again in 2000, where the movement was upgraded to a caliber 3130 movement. In 2007 the Air-King saw another upgrade in the new and improved 114200. This reinvention of the Air-King features much of the same aesthetics of the original Air-King, but with the technological advancement and features seen in a modern Rolex.

The Air-King line is often seen as one of Rolex's best "entry-level" watches, due to its more affordable price tag and sleek design. The latest model of the Air-King, the 116900 may be a departure from the original model, but ultimately stays true to its beginnings as a pilot's watch. The case takes advantage of Rolex'x Twinlock screw-down crown designed for extra waterproofness, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and is made from the highest-quality 904L stainless steel. Own your own piece of Rolex history with the Air-King.
