About Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo 3DS - There's no play like it!

The 3DS is a portable video game console released by Nintendo in February 2011 and the successor to the popular Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi series. While the appearance is not dramatically different from the original DS, the 3DS is equipped with a state-of-the-art 3D display that requires no usage of 3D glasses, which allows players to enjoy their favorite games in beautiful 3D graphics. The 3DS's system can also record and play video with excellent sound and picture quality. The 3DS is compatible with games from older systems like the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi, meaning you can upgrade to a new system without losing your game library. The Nintendo 3DS has sold over 20 million units in Japan alone, and 60 million units worldwide.

As with the previous Nintendo DS system, the Nintendo 3DS is equipped with the signature dual screen and touchscreen interface, alongside a built-in microphone and camera. However, the Nintendo 3DS has many exclusive features, including StreetPass a service in which players can collect Mii characters and enhance the gameplay in StreetPass-enabled games. The Nintendo 3DS is also Wi-Fi Compatible giving access to the Nintendo eShop where you can find and buy new games - without leaving the house. The Nintendo 3DS's trademark 3D function was something that Nintendo had been interested in implementing since the Game Boy Advance, but they waited until there was technology that would allow for 3D graphics to be viewed by the naked eye. The 3D function can be changed to the player's preference or disabled completely using a sliding adjuster on the side of the console. The 3D capabilities are not just limited to gameplay- the 3DS's camera can shoot 3D video and play augmented reality games, such as Face Raiders, a game preloaded into every 3DS console.

Consoles in the 3DS series are available in a wide range of colors, so no matter your preference you can find a model perfect for you. For the collectors, the 3DS series has released limited edition console designs featuring illustrations from popular series including The Legend of Zelda, One Piece, and Monster Hunter. In 2016, despite originally having no plan to sell the 2DS console in the Japanese market, Nintendo released 2DS consoles in four different colors bundled with re-releases of Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow exclusive to Japan.

The Nintendo 3DS game library is packed with entries from some of Nintendo's most beloved series. The incredibly popular Animal Crossing: New Leaf was the first 3DS game to sell over 2 million units in Japan, doing so in just 2 months after its initial release. Worldwide, Mario Kart 7 boasts the highest number of units sold with over 17 million copies. In 2012, Nintendo collaborated with The Louvre Museum in Paris to create an application that acts as an interactive guide for visitors of the museum. While the application was originally only available on the 3DS consoles at The Louvre Museum, from 2013 the software can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop. Other popular 3DS games include Pokemon Sun and Moon, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
