Gucci's Jackie bag (originally named Constance) was designed in 1950. 14 years later, former First Lady Jaqueline "Jackie" Kennedy (wife of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy) stepped into a Gucci store and changed the bag's history forever. She loved the design so much that she took 6 of them home that day! In recognition of her popularization of the bag, Gucci renamed the Jackie line in her honor. From that point, many celebrities have been seen sporting Jackie bags, such as Barbra Streisand, Nicole Kidman, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. In 1999, the Jackie line was revamped for the first time by Gucci's creative director, Tom Ford, to include modern colors and motifs. The revamped line (referred to as the New Jackie), puts a modern twist on the classic style through details such as the addition of large tassels. A classic masterpiece created by skilled craftsmen, Jackie bags are handmade with care using high-quality, thick leather. Because items in the Jackie line are designed with appearance and functionality in mind, ample pocket space is strategically placed for easy organization without sacrificing the bag's visual appeal. Jackie bags are known for being both a significant part of Gucci's history, as well as a modern product that stands to evolve further and grow in popularity.
