About Plushies Kogitsunemaru

Touken Ranbu Kogitsunemaru - Small Fox, Big Sword

Kogitsunemaru is a major character in online web browser game Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. In Touken Ranbu, players assume the role of a Saniwa sage who travels into the past to defeat evil forces that are trying to change the course of history. Sages have the ability to bring famous historical swords to life as touken danshi, the swords' anthropomorphized forms. Kogitsunemaru is a touken danshi. Part of Kogitsunemaru's name translates to "little fox." The reason for this, as explained by him in the game, is as an offering of gratitude to the gods for the fox deity that assisted in his forging. Some of his lines reference dissatisfaction with the fact that his name include a Japanese word meaning "little," which is normally reserved for babies and small children.

Touken Ranbu (which translates to "wild dance of swords") is a free-to-play online collectible card video game released by DMM and Nitroplus in January 2015. In the game, players assume the role of a Saniwa sage who travels back in time to defeat evil forces that are trying to change the course of history. As a sage, you have the ability to animate famous historical swords, which are anthropomorphized as attractive young men. Your duty is to bring these blades to life, create an army and defeat the enemies! The video game has received two anime adaptations, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru by Doga Kobo in 2016 and Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu by Ufotable in 2017. Touken Ranbu Pocket, the smartphone app version of the game for Apple iOS and Android, became available in March 2016.

Sanjo Munechika forged Kogitsunemaru. While praying at a Fushimi Inari shrine in 989 CE, Sanjo met a mysterious boy near the gate who he believed to be an Inari fox deity. He then forged the sword. The boy then is said to have used inhuman skill in assisted Sanjo with forging the sword. This sword was named Kogitsunemaru, to honor the Inari fox gods. There is a 53.8 cm-long sword said to be Kogitsunemaru enshrined within Ishikiri-Tsurugiya Shrine in Osaka, Japan. However, it's unclear whether this sword is the real Kogitsunemaru or not. This sword is open for public viewing during April and October, respectively Spring and Autumn Grand Festivals. In the Touken Ranbu game, Kogitsunemaru has long silver hair and red eyes. His character only requires half as many resources to repair as other Tachis. He resides in the citadel as of Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru.
