About Capricorn Shura

Saint Seiya Capricorn Shura - The Chosen Saint of the Capricorn Cloth

Capricorn Shura is a character from Saint Seiya, a manga and anime series written and illustrated by Masami Kurumada. Shura belongs to the fabled rank of Gold Saint hierarchy among the other 12 Gold Saints. Shura's Guardian Constellation is Capricornus, and his Gold Cloth represents it and it's associated myth: the fish-tailed goat Amalthea, the foster-mother of infant Zeus whose horn was transformed into the Cornucopia. While the anime series shows Shura as being the most loyal Saint to Athena, Kurumada's manga depicted Capricorn Saint to be somewhat reluctant until the last short moments of his life, when he rediscovered his loyalty to Athena and then remained faithful to her even beyond his death. Kurumada named Shura after Asura, the Hindu demon who eternally hungers for battle and war.

Saint Seiya is a Greek mythology-themed Japanese manga series by Masami Kurumada that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1985 to 1990. The manga follows five valiant Saints (or Knights, in some adaptations) who are empowered by the mystical energy of the Cosmos. The Saints fight wearing sacred armor called Cloths, the designs of which derive from the various constellations the individual characters have adopted as their guardian symbols. The Saints have sworn to defend the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth.

Some of Capricorn Shura's attacks include Sacred Sword Excalibur, Double Excalibur, and Jumping Stone. Shura relies on his ability to quickly deal damage to his enemies using his Excalibur attack combined to his speed of light, achieved with the seventh sense. He houses the power of the holy sword in both his arms and legs, thus effectively turning these appendages into extremely sharp blades. It is hinted Shura achieved the eighth sense to be able to help the other Gold Saints in the Wailing wall. In Saint Seiya Episode G, he also was able to reach Dunamis, the power of the gods, to cut Galaxy Creios' holy armor using Double Excalibur. The temple he guarded was known both in manga and the anime adaptation as Makatsu Kyu, the Temple of the Mountain Goat.

As revealed in the manga, Shura became a Gold Saint at an early age. He had already been granted the Gold Saint status and the Capricorn Gold Cloth by the time he was ten years old. In the colored pages of the manga, Shura is presented as having blue hair. In the anime, this is changed to a dark green. Interestingly, his hair color in the manga is heavily similar to Deathmask's hair color. These two Gold Saints are connected by the fact that they've both fought Shiryu.
