About Sagittarius Aiolos

Saint Seiya Sagittarius Aiolos - The most mysterious gold saint

Sagittarius Aiolos is a character from the legendary manga series Saint Seiya (also known as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac) by Masami Kurumada. The manga was later adapted into a popular anime that became incredibly popular around the world. The series is inspired by the complex pantheon of Greek mythology with the main story following five valiant Saints (or Knights, depending on the adaptation) who all have powers bestowed on them by the mystical energy of the cosmos. Ailos is a Gold Saint, the most powerful warriors in Athena's army. He is one of the twelve Guardians of Sanctuary, with his namesake Sagittarius being his assigned constellation. Aiolos' character is explored more in-depth within Saint Seiya Episode G, which is set six years before the events of the original manga series.

Sagittarius Aiolos was first introduced in the 25th chapter of the sixth volume of the Saint Seiya manga. As one of the twelve Guardians of the Sanctuary he was tasked with protecting Athena and eventually ended up dying to protect her when she was an infant. His righteousness and dedication to the Guardians of the Sanctuary are why he is seen as the perfect saint and revered by his fellow saints. Because of his great skills and undying loyalty, he was chosen as one of the two Gold Saints who would succeed Aries Shion as the next Pope of Sanctuary. In the original Saint Seiya timeline, he often came to rescue by sending his cloth from beyond the dead.

Since Aiolos died Saint Seiya began not much was known about him until his appearance in Saint Seiya Episode G, which is set six years before the events of Saint Seiya. Here we learn about Aiolos' relationship with Garan, his younger brother Leo Aiolia who is the protagonist of Saint Seiya Episode G. During the events of Saint Seiya Episode G, Aiolos would often visit his brother as a spirit to guide him.

Aiolos' special move was not revealed in the original manga, however, he was once depicted using a golden arrow in the series. In the anime, he uses the technique "Atomic Thunderbolt" in which Aiolo releases countless high-speed punches. As with the manga, this move was only shown once. Due to Aiolos being dead in all the iterations of Saint Seiya, he is a character still shrouded in mystery, but that doesn't stop him from being a firm fan favorite thanks to his bravery and sleek character design.
