Shin Asuka
Shin is a ZAFT Coordinator and the protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. During the Earth Alliance's invasion of the Orb in C.E.71, he lost his parents and sister while caught up in crossfire. After escaping Orb, he relocated to the PLANTs and became an elite pilot and was in Armory One to escort Durandal. He is the official pilot of the new model MS Impulse Gundam.

Stella Loussier
Stella is a MS pilot of the Earth Alliance Special Forces. She pilots the Gaia Gundam that she hijacked at Armory One. She normally comes across as an ordinary girl, but she shows extraordinary strength during battle.

Kira Yamato
After the battle of Jachin Due, Kira finds shelter with Reverend Malchio in Orb to live a quiet life with Lacus and the orphans. After the Junius Seven drop incident, he senses the beginning of a new war and that his quiet life is about to end.

Athrun Zala
After the second battle of Jachin Due, Athrun defected to Orb and supported Cagalli in becoming the representative. He accompanied her to Armory One for a secret meeting with Durandal. In public, he uses the alias Alex Dino.

ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam
Destiny Gundam is the latest MS developed by ZAFT to put an end to their battle with the Earth Alliance. Destiny's performance far surpasses that of the Second Stage series Gundams, like Impulse Gundam. It is rumored that Gilbert Durandal was involved in its development. In hopes of forging a new future for the Coordinators, Durandal gives the Destiny Gundam to Shin Asuka.

ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam
Strike Freedom Gundam is the last trump card developed with the goal of dissolving the conflict between ZAFT and the Earth Alliance. Due to the installation of a new engine, its combat capability is several times higher than the original Freedom Gundam. It has gold-colored joints and is piloted by Kira Yamato.

The story of Gundam SEED Destiny is set two years after the original series ended and begins when the leader of Orb, Cagalli Yula Athha, reunites with PLANT's chairman Gilbert Durandal to discuss the construction of new mobile suits made for the military organization ZAFT. Three of them are stolen by a group called Phantom Pain, which is controlled by the Blue Cosmos terrorist organization. Cagalli's bodyguard Athrun Zala joins ZAFT pilot Shin Asuka to stop them. During the fight, ZAFT's battleship Minerva is ordered to destroy the ruins of a space colony on order to prevent it from crashing into Earth. They then find out that rogue ZAFT soldiers are controlling the colony for the opposite purpose - to crash it into Earth. After failing to completely destroy the colony, a second war starts between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT once news has spread that ZAFT soldiers caused the colony to collide with Earth. The neutral country of Orb joins Blue Cosmos as well as the Earth Alliance. These three factions confront ZAFT soldiers several times over the course of this war.
