Love Live Sunshine (stylized as Love Live! Sunshine!!) is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by ASCII Media Works's Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis and animation studio Sunrise. The series is a spinoff from Love Live and revolves around a group of nine schoolgirl friends who create the idol group known as Aqours in order to save their school from shutting down. Love Live Sunshine in launched in the August 2015 with music CDs and accompanying anime music videos. The anime adaptation of the series broadcast between July and September 2016. Just like its predecessor, Love Love Sunshine was a hit and went on to produce spinoff music CDs, anime music videos, a theatrical film release, two manga adaptations, and multiple video games.

When Uranohoshi Girls' High School is in danger of closing, dedicated student Chika Takami becomes determined to turn things around. She is inspired by the famous school idol group μ's (pronounced "muse") to start her own School Idol Club in order to save the school. Chika starts the idol group Aqours with the help of eight of her fellow students Riko Sakurauchi, Kanan Matsuura, Dia Kurosawa, You Watanabe, Hanamaru Kunikida, Yoshiko Tsushima, Mari Ohara, and Ruby Kurosawa.

The initial 13-episode anime television series produced by Sunrise, directed by Kazuo Sakai and written by Jukki Hanada aired in Japan between July and September 2016. Love Live's second season aired from October to December 2017. An animated film titled Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow was distributed by Shochiku and released in January 2019.

In January 2016 it was announced that the Aqours characters would be joining the free-to-play collectible card game (CCG) Love Live School Idol Festival. The Aqours idols would be given their own stories, new songs, and cards for fans to collect. The game itself includes elements of rhythm game and visual novel genres. A version for Android was also released. The game was localized into English and released worldwide in May 2014 for both iOS and Android devices. The game also localized into Chinese and Korean.
