Although Racing Miku has existed in some form since the Hatsune Miku GT Project began in 2008, the annual unveiling of Racing Miku illustrations and derivatives only became a feature from the 2010 motorsport season onwards. Merchandise of Racing Miku is not just limited to figures; a plethora of apparel, cycling goods, and model cars depicting Racing Miku are also available. Good Smile Company has produced dozens of Racing Miku products, including figures under their popular Figma and Nendoroid lines.

Racing Miku is often depicted as a "Race Queen", the Japanese expression for promotional models that appear at motorsport promotional events. Promotional models that appear at the motorsport events that Good Smile Racing participates in often wear outfits based on that year's Racing Miku costume.
