Fate/Zero - the prequel to Fate/stay night

Fate/Zero is a light novel written by Gen Urobuchi of Madoka Magica fame. The novel is illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi, and is a prequel the Type-Moon visual novel, Fate/stay night. Fate/Zero takes place ten years before the events of Fate/stay night, chronicling the story of the Fourth Holy Grail War. The main protagonist of the light novel is Kiritsugu Emiya, who is the foster father the Fate/stay night character, Shirou Emiya. Fate/Zero was a huge success when the first volume was released in 2096, spawning anime and manga adaptations, as well as art books and video game spinoffs.

Fate/Zero is a light novel written by Gen Urobuchi and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi, first published in 2011. The project was supervised by Type-Moon cofounder Kinoko Nasu. Fate/Zero is a prequel to the visual novel Fate/stay night, detailing the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. The main protagonist of Fate/Zero is Kiritsugu Emiya, who is the foster father of Fate/stay night character, Shirou Emiya.

The war saw the battles of seven Masters (Kiritsugu Emiya, Irisviel von Einzbern, Kirei Kotomine, Tokiomi Tohsaka, Aoi Tohsaka, Waver Velvet, and Kariya Matou) and Servants under seven classes (Saber, Archer, Rider, Lancer, Caster, Berserker, and Assasin).

Fate/Zero was incredibly popular on release, spawning a manga and anime adaptation that was praised by fans and critics alike. The anime adaptation ran for 24 episodes and was simulcasted with eight different language subtitles so that Fate/Zero fans from around the world could enjoy the series. Drama CDs based on the Fate/Zero light novel series were also released between 2008 to 2010. Gen Urobuchi also served as head writer for the sound drama of Fate/Zero.
