About Fate-Grand Order

Fate/Grand Order - the world of Fate in your pocket

Fate/Grand Order, often shortened to FGO, is a role-playing mobile game inspired on the Fate/stay night visual novel and its consequent sequels by the developers Type-Moon. The online free-to-play smartphone game was developed by Delightworks and published by Aniplex, first released in Japan for Android and iOS in 2015. The game features turn-based combat in which the player as the Master must summon and command powerful warriors known as "Servants" in order to defeat their enemies. While the main gameplay plays out like a typical role-playing game title, Fate/Grand Order tells its narrative via a visual novel format. Many Servants from previous games in the series are also available such as Altria Pendragon (Saber), Tamamo-no-Mae (Caster), and Scathach (Lancer).

Early development of Fate/Grand Order began as a draft by Kinoko Nasu who intended the game to be an MMO version of the light novel Fate/Apocrypha. After this project was shelved, Aniplex approached Nasu to rework the concept into a smartphone mobile RPG game. The final version of the game was released in 2015 and was a huge success. Two years later in 2017, a sequel to the main storyline was announced named "Epic of Remnant". North American and Korean servers of the game were made available in 2017, a year after a Chinese version of Fate/Grand Order was published.

The plot of Fate/Grand Order is set 11 years after the events of the Fifth Holy Grail War in Fate/state night, with the eradication of humanity imminent. The Chaldea Security Organization uses the power of time travel in order to retrieve Holy Grails in order to stop the destruction of humankind. The player takes the role of the Ritsuka Fujimaru, a Master who can summon a huge amount of Servants.

Fate/Grand Order was a huge commercial hit, grossing $370 million from in-app purchases during its first year of release. Fate/Grand Order also spawned an anime and manga adaptation of the same name which was based on the game's prologue. A stage play named "Fate/Grand Order The Stage: Domain of the Holy Round Table Camelot Replica; Agateram" was also performed in 2017 at the Zepp Blue Theater in Roppongi, Tokyo.
