Digimon Adventure is an anime series that tells the story of seven children attending a summer camp in Japan who are transported to an alternate world linked to ours by the Information Superhighway - the Digiworld. The kids encounter strange creatures called Digimon that hatch from eggs and "digivolve." The children soon learn that they, with the help of Digimon, are the only hope of saving both Earth and Digiworld from total destruction.

Digimon Adventure features the original DigiDestined: Taichi "Tai" Kamiya, Yamato "Matt" Ishida, Sora Takenouchi, Koushiro "Izzy" Izumi, Mimi Tachikawa, Joe Kido, Takeru "T. K." Takaishi and Kari Kamiya. Their Digimon partners, such as Agumon, Gabumon and Biyomon, that follow them on their journey are perhaps the most recognizable and iconic characters from the franchise.

The series was highly regarded and garnered millions of viewers around the world. It became one of the most successful and popular anime exported from outside of Japan, alongside Pokemon, Dragon Ball X and Sailor Moon. The legacy of the original Digimon anime series lives on, with a currently untitled film sequel, taking place eleven years after the events of Digimon Adventures being slated for release in 2019.
