About by Character Syaoran Li

Syaoran Li - Sakura's Rival of the Clow

Syaoran Li is one of the main characters of the manga series Cardcaptor Sakura (often abbreviated as CCS and localized into English as "Cardcaptors"), a Japanese magical girl manga series illustrated and written by the manga group Clamp. The original manga series was serialized from May 1996 to June 2000 in the shojo manga magazine Nakayoshi. The series was incredibly popular, spawning a 70-episode TV anime adaptation, video games, art books, and picture books. A manga sequel to the series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, began serializing in 2016. Syaoran also appears in two of Clamp's later manga series, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic. Syaoran is a descendant of Clow Reed, the creator of the Clow Cards, and one of Sakura's most trusted friends.

Syaoran Li is a member of the Li clan of sorcerers from Hong Kong, who are distant relatives of the creator of the Clow Cards, Clow Reed. Due to his familial ties, Syaoran initially believes that he should be the one to inherit the Clow Cards and not Sakura Kinomoto. His first appearance in Cardcaptor Sakura is as an antagonist, who is cold and critical towards Sakura. However, after watching Sakura grow into her role as master of the Clow Cards, he begins to respect her as the true ruler of the Clow Cards. Later in the series, Syaoran develops romantic feelings for Sakura and tries to confess several times before finally revealing his true feelings before he returns to Hong Kong. He is incredibly jealous of Eriol Hiragizawa, who he sees as a rival in romance with Sakura.

Syaoran is also very close with Meiling Li, a childhood friend whom he was forced into an engagement with. They both trained in martial arts while in Hong Kong under the tutelage of their chaperone in Japan, Wang Wei. Syaoran has an antagonistic relationship with Sakura's elder brother Toya Kinomoto and Cerberus, due to Syaoran's initial treatment of Sakura. Tomoyo Daidouji is a kind friend towards Syaoran, making him green robes inspired by traditional Chinese dress to use in battle.

Syaoran appeared as the main protagonist in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, although his character is separate from the Syaoran of Cardcaptor Sakura. He is voiced by Motoko Kumai in the Japanese TV anime series, with Rhys Huber lending his voice to Syaoran in the English dub.
