About Digimon

Digimon - Change into Digital Champions to save the Digital World!

Digimon (short for Digital Monsters) is a Japanese media franchise by Bandai encompassing virtual pet toys, anime, manga, video games, films and a trading card game. Digimon are monsters living in a parallel universe that originated from Earth's various communication networks. Originally released in 1997 as a series of virtual pocket pets, Digimon were designed to be a fighting version of the Tamagotchi. In this sense, Digimon have always been digital pets that you can raise and battle. In March of 1999, Digimon launched an anime TV series which expanded overseas and has accounted for much of the brand's worldwide success.

Digimon Adventure is an anime series that tells the story of seven children attending a summer camp in Japan who are transported to an alternate world linked to ours by the Information Superhighway - the Digiworld. The kids encounter strange creatures called Digimon that hatch from eggs and "digivolve." The children soon learn that they, with the help of Digimon, are the only hope of saving both Earth and Digiworld from total destruction.

Digimon Adventure and its two sequels, Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon Tamers, were added to the Netflix Instant Streaming service in 2013 and 2014 respectively, with Japanese audio and English subtitles. Crunchyroll began streaming the English-subtitled version of Digimon Fusion outside of Japan in November 2011. The English-localized version of its first season became available on Netflix in September 2014, followed by the second season in March 2016. As of 2017, Crunchyroll is currently streaming the dubbed versions of Adventure, Adventure 02, Tamers and Frontier, in addition to the subtitled version of Fusion's third season, which didn't receive a dub. The dubbed seasons of Fusion are currently streaming on Netflix.

In 2017, Bandai commemorated Digimon's 20th anniversary by re-releasing an updated version of their original Tamagotchi-like Digivice (or Digital Monster Device) from 1997, the Bandai Digital Monster Ver. 20th (Digimon 20th Anniversary Edition). The revamped pocket-sized keychain game was initially only offered in the same two colors as the version one devices, Original Brown and Original Gray, but new designs and colors have since been added. Which one will you choose as your companion in the Digiworld?
