Yuu Nishinoya is a second-year student at Karasuno High School, the sporting rival to Nekoma High. He is the shortest member of the team, standing at 159cm tall, even shorter than fellow Kurasuno High teammate, Shoyo Hinata. But his short stature doesn't stop Nishinoya from being a powerhouse when it comes to volleyball! He is affectionately called Noya by the rest of his teammates.

Nishinoya can be temperamental and is extremely energetic. While he often acts rashly and tends not to think about the consequences of his actions, he is very caring and considerate when it comes to his friends' feelings and insecurities. Despite having impatient and impulsive tendencies, his demeanor completely changes when on the volleyball court. In-game Nishinoya is focused and serious, doing everything he can in order to give support to his team.

Nishinoya's defensive skills are unparalleled with his lightning-fast reflexes and swift feet. Even the usually critical captain of Daichi Sawamura sees Nishinoya's true potential, referring to him as the "guardian deity" of the team. While not a great game strategist, Nishinoya is great at acting on the spur of the moment, adapting his play as the match goes on.
