About Versace

Versace - The luxury brand behind Hollywood's flashy glamour

Versace is an Italian luxury fashion brand founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace. Versace is known for its bold, sexy designs bearing its signature Medusa logo. After Gianni's tragic death in 1997, the company was inherited by his sister, Donatella. Under her direction, Versace's over-the-top brand image has become a bit more polished and toned down; however, the company has always epitomized glitz and glamour. Thanks to the support of countless celebrities and models, Versace has become an iconic high-fashion label that's recognized all around the world.

Versace (or Gianni Versace SpA) produces fashion and lifestyle products including haute couture, prèt-à-porter, accessories, jewelry, watches, eyewear, fragrances and home furnishings. Recurrent themes seen in Versace designs include artistic Baroque and Rococo styles, sexy skin-tight tailoring, and glossy finishes. Like many other high-fashion brands, Versace is also known for its high-quality craftsmanship.

Born in 1946 in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, Gianni Versace launched his first clothing line in Milan in 1978. Versace worked his way up the ranks of the fashion world and was regarded as a top designer throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1989, Versace debuted his first couture collection. He went on to add two clothing lines to his brand, Versus and Instante. He continued to build his fashion empire, expanding into home furnishings and perfumes. Throughout his career, Versace designed for such high-profile figures as Madonna, Princess Diana, Elton John, Naomi Campbell, and Tina Turner.

Versace became well-known for his glamorous designs, particularly a range of siren-style dresses that eventually became his trademark. He often used innovative materials such as aluminum mesh or cutting-edge techniques like laser technology to fuse leather and rubber. The head of Medusa has always been a recurring image on many of his clothing items and accessories. Versace has been cemented in pop culture history as a globally renowned Italian fashion house synonymous with over-the-top, extravagant celebrity fashion.
